Montreal has always been a city with a strong relationship with food. From neighbourhood institutions that have been serving generations of families to exciting new restaurants just finding their place, there is always another story waiting to be told. MTL Resto Rap exists to explore those stories while sharing the experiences that make dining in Montreal such a memorable part of the city.
More Than a Restaurant Review
A restaurant is about much more than the food that arrives at the table. It is about the people who opened the doors, the family that has kept the business going, the chef who decided to try something different and the customers who have made a particular place part of their own lives. Our stories combine restaurant reviews with the history, personalities, neighbourhoods and experiences that make each establishment unique.
Sometimes a restaurant has been around for decades and carries an entire neighbourhood’s history with it. Other times, it is a brand-new idea that gives Montreal diners something they have never experienced before. That variety is what makes the city’s restaurant scene so interesting to explore.

MTL Resto Rap is rooted in Montreal, but our coverage is not limited to one neighbourhood or one style of food. We explore restaurants across Montreal and the surrounding area, from longstanding institutions to independent neighbourhood restaurants, new openings, food halls, cafés, chains and the many businesses that contribute to the region’s culinary landscape.
Montreal’s food scene is constantly changing, and that is part of what makes covering it so much fun. Our approach to restaurant writing is personal. We want readers to know what we experienced, what stood out and what made a particular restaurant worth talking about, while recognizing that food is personal and everyone’s experience can be different.
The purpose is not to tell readers what they must like. It is to introduce them to places, people and dishes they might want to discover for themselves. Sometimes we find something exceptional, sometimes we discover a place that brings back memories, and sometimes a restaurant surprises us completely. That is the fun of exploring.
