The city of Laval has some terrific restaurants. Add Westwood Grill & Bar (https://www.westwoodrestaurantbar.com/en/food) to the list. Recently opened at Place Bell, the venue can accommodate 180 people aged 18 and over.
Work to construct this 6,500 square foot restaurant-bar, divided into two sections, took eight months. There is an impressive 105-seat open-air restaurant and a 60-seat lounge. In addition, a mezzanine can accommodate 25 people in a private space available for groups. Clients will be able to enjoy an outdoor terrace with 45 seats during the summer season, starting in 2020.
I was impressed with the speed in which our server Laura and her colleagues brought the food to our table. If you want to grab a bite here before a Place Bell event, they have you covered.
Designed by A5 Hospitality, in collaboration with Groupe Harden and Groupe Midway, the Westwood Grill & Bar combines the delicate flavours of the California West Coast with the creativity of the Wynwood district of Miami. The Westwood Grill offers a menu in which the freshness of the sea and vegetables of season are combined with the hot flavours of charcoal grilling. The decoration, with a Palm Springs feel, sets the tone to create a destination to celebrate and share a meal.
Based on their respective experiences, Chefs Olivier Vigneault and Jonathan Fournier offer a sophisticated menu. For his part, Chief Pinou Thong, who was trained alongside the famous Chef Antonio Park, adds his personal touch by offering a selection of raw fish, tartars and maki. Westwood also offers a wide variety of traditional cocktail, beers, and a wine list carefully prepared by sommelier Charles Lefrançois.
“Today’s customers tend to go to a place where the atmosphere changes, where they can easily eat and enjoy the possibility of extending an evening there,” said Operations Manager and Co-owner Josianne Beaulieu. “This is exactly what the Westwood offers.”
This is a great spot for sharing and my friend Nick and I did just that. We started off with some drinks: a peach bellini for me and a vodka for him.
A delicious wedge salad came first. A team of servers quickly filled the table with all of our other choices. The duo sashimi was excellent. Ditto for the ginger and beef dumplings. I never say no to a good steak – and our choice was a New York strip steak cut into thin pieces. Next came the fried chicken, prepared in small crunchy pieces and accompanied by Yukon gold fries. For dessert, we shared some chocolate cake. The menu is divided into selections of small plates, raw, happy feet, in the water, staples, vegetables and salads. So, if you are two it makes sense to choose one thing from each section.
