I have to admit, I hate seeing my eye doctor. It’s one of those annual appointments I would happily erase from my calendar, but unfortunately, that’s not how life works. This particular visit left me frustrated, cranky and probably not the easiest person to be around that morning. Thankfully, my wife had a plan. She suggested we stop at the new Smashberry on Décarie for something refreshing. She was paying, so how could I refuse?
I’m glad she did because sometimes a little treat can turn an otherwise irritating day around. I ordered a matcha mango, while my wife picked out a drink featuring other fruits. My drink was heavenly. It went down smoothly, and after a few sips, I was feeling considerably better. Maybe I’ll never look forward to my eye appointments, but knowing there’s a Smashberry nearby might make the next trip a little easier to swallow. Literally!
This was our chance to check out Smashberry’s much-anticipated second Montreal location. We visited on its second day of operation, following its November 1, 2026 opening, at 5343 Ferrier Street, near Décarie Boulevard. The new flagship is a considerably larger operation than the original Westmount storefront, with a lounge, expanded indoor seating and an outdoor terrace. Dedicated parking is also reported for the new location.
For anyone unfamiliar with the concept, an açaí and wellness bar is a modern, fruit-focused eatery built around açaí bowls, smoothies and specialty beverages. Think customizable bowls, fresh fruit and drinks that offer something different from the usual fast-food stop or sugary dessert counter. Smashberry puts that idea front and centre, with its Amazonian açaí bowls, fruit-based creations and customizable toppings.
The company describes its açaí as thick, unsweetened and made to order, rather than watered down into a thin smoothie base. It also says strawberries, bananas, mangoes and kiwis are sliced fresh in-house each day, with granola added at the counter to keep its crunch. That’s an approach we appreciate. There’s a difference between a menu built around real fruit and one where everything seems to come from a bottle of flavouring.

Smashberry is nestled between the iconic Orange Julep and the impressive Royalmount lifestyle centre, putting it right in the middle of one of Décarie’s busiest commercial areas. With Décarie Boulevard and the Trans-Canada Highway nearby, there’s no shortage of passing traffic, commuters and shoppers. It’s a lively location with plenty of activity, making it a convenient stop for anyone looking to grab a refreshing drink or an açaí bowl while in the area.
What we particularly enjoyed was the atmosphere. The whole place has a hip, modern feel, and we loved the ambiance. It’s not somewhere you have to rush in, order and disappear. You can settle down, enjoy your drink, catch up with someone, or spend some time scrolling through your social media in comfort. It’s the kind of place where you can chill for a while, and that makes a difference.
We also have to give the staff credit. We visited on only their second day of operation, so you might expect a few opening-week hiccups. Instead, the staff was helpful and fast, and everything went smoothly. That’s a pretty good start for a brand-new location.
Matcha is another reason Smashberry caught our attention. It’s everywhere these days. Coffee shops and major franchises are riding the green wave, with even Tim Hortons getting in on the craze. But matcha can be hit or miss. Sometimes the flavour is there, and sometimes it gets lost in the mix.
My matcha mango was delicious, but if I had one suggestion, it would be to give the matcha a little more bite. I’d like a bolder, more pronounced taste. When I order matcha, I want to know it’s there. That’s a small distinction, but it can make a big difference to someone who enjoys the flavour.
We found the pricing fairly reasonable, too. That’s important when specialty drinks are becoming increasingly popular and customers have plenty of choices. A good drink, a fruit-focused menu, a comfortable place to sit and helpful staff make for a pretty appealing combination.

Overall, we enjoyed our visit. Smashberry’s new Décarie location has a lot going for it, from the relaxed atmosphere and friendly service to its emphasis on fruit and specialty beverages. I especially like that you can actually sit down and enjoy yourself instead of treating it as another quick stop.
My wife managed to turn a cranky afternoon into a pleasant little outing, and my matcha mango certainly helped. I still can’t say I’m looking forward to my next eye appointment, but at least I now have another reason to make the trip. Sometimes you don’t need a grand adventure to improve your day. A good drink, a comfortable place and someone thoughtful enough to treat you can do the trick.
I will definitely be back. In fact, maybe I’ll even pencil in my next eye appointment a little earlier than usual. That’s not something I ever thought I’d say, but if there’s a Smashberry visit waiting on the other side, perhaps those dreaded appointments aren’t quite so bad after all!
