Homers: West Island’s Ultimate New Donut Wonderland

The wait is finally over. If you grew up believing treats should feel a little magical and still get that thrill when a bakery box is opened, this is your moment. Whether you’re hunting for donuts worthy of a celebration or simply craving a serious sugar fix close to the West Island, the arrival of Homers Donut Box, known in French as Homers Boîte à Beignes, has answered your sweet tooth. Mike Cohen previously spotlighted Homers Donuts founder Terry Axiotis and the vision fueling the brand’s rapid growth since its early spring 2024 opening on Sherbrooke Street West in NDG. What began as a single Montreal donut shop quickly expanded to Brossard, Laval, Montreal’s Quartier des Spectacles, Quebec City, Terrebonne, Gatineau, Blainville, Chateauguay, and now Dollard des Ormeaux, with the Greater Toronto Area next on the expansion map. Best known for its handmade daily donuts, offered in up to 30 flavors, the original NDG location soon expanded to include seating, milkshakes, coffee, and donut-based sandwiches to meet nonstop lineups and rising demand.

A Park Extension native, Axiotis began his food industry career at McDonald’s before running Subway and Boustan franchises, where the idea for Homers was born. Inspired by Bernie Beigne and recognizing an opening in the non-franchised donut market, he refined his concept and launched a brand that became an instant success.

With all the buzz surrounding Homers, I had to experience it firsthand. Coming from a baking background, this first visit felt almost nostalgic, driven by a desire to find something playful, festive, and a delicous to surprise my sister with. In the past, my favorite Bomboloni donut shop would have been my automatic choice, but seeing those once-special donuts now sitting frozen in grocery store freezers has stripped away much of the original magic. Krispy Kreme still offers a sense of comfort, like visiting an old friend, but Homers is playing a completely different game, operating in its own bold, unapologetic donut universe.

Walking in felt like stepping into an Adult Swim cartoon. The outside world vanished instantly, replaced by a hyper-colored sensory playground fueled by sugar and imagination. Lights, bold colors, and over-the-top donuts collide into a playful overload that somehow works perfectly. It’s vibrant without being chaotic, loud without being noisy, and just quirky enough to be unforgettable. Homers isn’t just a donut shop; it’s a full-blown sugar dreamscape blending pop culture and pure indulgent fun.

The signature Homers donut lives up to its name, with pink frosting, rainbow sprinkles, and pure cartoon-inspired joy in every bite.

Other favorites include Biscoff donuts with their spiced cookie charm, Cookie Monster donuts packed with playful blueish fun, and Érable donuts celebrating maple sweetness.
