My family has been frequenting the Firegrill Restaurant ( https://firegrill.com) for a few years now, enjoying some of the best steaks in town at their downtown Stanley Street and St. Laurent Sphèretech 14 (next to Cinemas Guzzo) locations.
I have been to Kahnawake a few times in my life, but it was my curiosity over a tempting relatively new restaurant called Two O Seven Steak and Seafood which closed the deal for me to venture over the Mercier Bridge for dinner one night. I was joined by my friend Mel Leitman, his wife Connie Dorfman and his sister-in-law Marilyn Silverman.
There are restaurants in Montreal which merit being compared to a “unique dining experience” and Gibbys certainly qualifies for that category.
In 1969 Gilbert (Gibby) Rosenberg and two partners established a steakhouse in St. Sauveur. His nickname stuck and would soon become legendary. Three years later a second Gibbys opened up in a historic former stable in Place d’Youville in Old Montreal. The rest is history. Today, both locales continue to thrive. For a brief time, there was even South Florida locale in Fort Lauderdale.
In case you have not noticed, I am a huge fan of the growing Petros Taverna family of dining establishments in the Montreal area.
Owner Ted Drainias is a man on the move. Years ago he first brought us Peter’s Cape Cod on the West Island. Then came La Trattoria on Notre Dame Street in Griffintown, where he introduced the maiden Petros right next door in May of 2015. It was such an instant success that in December 2016 he expanded with Petros Westmount at the corner of St. Catherine Street and Grosvenor.
The Vieux-Port Steakhouse on St. Paul Street West in Old Montreal has been a year-round favorite of mine for many years. That is particularly the case during the summer.
